Dear Friends,
We are launching into the “cyberspace” universe a campaign from now until Christmas to try and feed 500,000 families that still have not received any aid from the Cyclone Nargis destruction in Myanmar.
The campaign is called 5 for 5. For every $5 you donate, we can feed a family of 5 for 5 days. Thanks to charitable partners who are incurring all administration costs on our behalf, every $1 will be sent into Myanmar to the grassroots agencies working on the ground. You will receive a Canadian or US tax receipt for every donation over $5.

It is estimated that 2.4 million people have been affected by Cyclone Nargis and up to 300,000 killed, including 120,000 children. The estimated death toll now exceeds that of the 2004 Tsunami.

Why help Myanmar?
Myanmar receives far less foreign aid than regional neighbors
Myanmar receives @ $US 2.50 per capita
Cambodia receives@ $47 USD
Laos receives @ $63USD
Myanmar’s $US 2.50 is well below the $14 average for low-income nations.

Per capita GNI is estimated at $220, although reliable data are unavailable. Indicators of poverty and health, while scarce, are amongst the worst in the world, and yet it has the lowest per capita development assistance of any major poor country: in 2006 UNDP ranked Burma 130 out of 177 countries in its Human Development Index.
Myanmar population – about 53 million

The Myanmar context
One of the poorest countries in the world, Myanmar has been isolated for most of the last 44 years. A recent natural disaster has left the gentle souls in state of misery, with hundreds of thousands still living in mud and standing water. The cyclone hit hard and followed the planting season. Now having missed two planting seasons food shortages threaten the health of children. The effected population is highly impoverished, International help is easing the burden and suffering through global generosity. Together help raise international awareness to life the Myanmar people out of poverty.

Myanmar remains one of the more interesting, least traveled, delightful countries in the world to visit, regardless of its politics. It is easy to travel in Myanmar with much of the money tourists spend going directly to the Myanmar people. We would encourage you to consider exploring this fascinating country. www.MyanmarGoodNewsTravel.com
